  • 3

This tutorial will show you how to set up web-hosting (cPanel) email account in Apple Mail OS X Yosemite.

1. Select
Preferences in the Mail menu

2. Go to Accounts tab, and click on the plus icon

3. Select Add Other Mail Account... option

4. In Add a Mail Account window enter your full name, email address and email account password > click on Create

5. Application will try to detect the settings automatically. Disregard the result, click on Next

On the Incoming Mail Server screen select POP or IMAP protocol for Account Type, and enter your account details (username - full email address) > Next

Apple Mail may require specifying additional settings at this point:

IMAP Path Prefix: leave this field empty
Port: 993 with SSL enabled is recommended for IMAP connections
995 with SSL enabled is recommended for POP3 connections

You can also use 143 for IMAP without SSL and 110 with POP3 without SSL

     Authentication: Password

6. In Outgoing Mail Server window, fill out the details as follows:

SMTP Server: Use the same server name as for incoming server
     User Name: full email address
Password: password for this email address

You might be prompted to configure additional settings on this stage. Details are to be as follows:

Port: 465 with SSL enabled (recommended)
Alternatively you can use 25 or 26 with SSL disabled
     Authentication: Password

We are almost finished - configuring Advanced Server Settings.

7. Select Preferences in the Mail menu

Click on Accounts and then click on the account you just created in the left side of the window.

8. Click on the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): dropdown box.

Click on Edit SMTP Server List

Verify that your settings are as follows:

Automatically detect and maintain account settings is switched off
Port: 465 with SSL enabled
25 or 26, with SSL disabled
Authentication: Password
Allow insecure authentication should be switched on

User Name: full email address
Password: password for this email address

Click OK to return the Accounts screen

9. Last step - Verify correct port for Incoming Mail Server

From the Accounts screen click Advanced

Ensure the following are set:

Port:
993 with SSL enabled is recommended for IMAP connections
995 with SSL enabled is recommended for POP3 connections

You can also use 143 for IMAP without SSL and 110 with POP3 without SSL

If you are using IMAP, IMAP Path Prefix must be set to INBOX; otherwise, Mail.app® will not be able to store deleted, draft, or sent mail on the server.

That's it! All you need to do is save your settings and your Apple Mail client will be configured to work with Big Hippo Host.

To save your settings simply close the Accounts window or click to another tab such as General. You'll be prompted to save.
